Inclement Weather Closure
On rare occasions, circumstances may require emergency closing of the University due to inclement weather. When the Provost or their designee makes a decision to close the University, Campus Safety will be contacted and utilize the University’s emergency notification system to notify the University population.
Those personnel required to remain on duty to provide “essential” services in an emergency will receive pay as outlined by their departmental guidelines. Employees who work a Remote or Hybrid work schedule will be expected to work from home to the extent possible during such closures.
Appointed employees who cannot work a hybrid or remote work schedule will be compensated at their regular rate of pay if the University is officially closed. In these instances, pay will not be computed as time worked for overtime purposes.
Even though the University is not closed, adverse weather or other extreme circumstances may make job attendance difficult or cause employees to be late. In such circumstances, employees should promptly communicate requests for absence or late arrival to their supervisors. Supervisors are expected to use their judgment as to whether to excuse employees for lateness or absence, keeping in mind the conditions and the operational needs of the University.
Pursuant to the Colorado Health Family and Workplaces Act (HFWA), all University employees who work in Colorado accrue leave that may be used when an employee needs to miss work to care for a family member whose school or place of care has been closed due to inclement weather (among other reasons). For more information regarding types of leave, see the Leave of Absence Policy, at http://mwdt.lixubing.com/sites/default/files/2022-09/HRIC%203.30.010%20Leave%20of%20Absence_0.pdf.
